How much does security camera installation cost?
It depends on the camera count, the distances involved, and how difficult the cable routes are, so we price it after seeing the property and put it in writing before any work starts. A two camera system covering a front door and a driveway and a sixteen camera system covering a commercial yard are different projects, and a number quoted over the phone without seeing either would be a guess.
Can I watch the cameras from my phone?
Yes. Every camera system we install comes standard with a free remote viewing app, and it works from anywhere you have an internet connection. We set it up on the devices in your household as part of the install rather than leaving you with a QR code and a manual.
How long is footage kept?
For as long as the storage you choose allows. We size it to the retention you actually want, which for most homes is a week or two and for businesses is often thirty days or more. Tell us how far back you want to be able to look and we will specify to that.
Do cameras work at night?
Yes. The IP cameras we install have infrared illumination for low light. Placement matters a lot here: a camera pointed at a bright porch light will wash out, and one under a soffit with no ambient light will rely entirely on its own IR. We plan for the lighting that is actually there.
Do I need an alarm system to have cameras?
No. Plenty of our camera installs are standalone. That said, integrating cameras with a monitored alarm is where each gets better: an alarm event can bring up the relevant camera on your phone so you can see whether it is an intruder or a delivery driver before anyone is dispatched.
Will cameras work with my wifi?
We install hard-wired IP cameras rather than wifi cameras for exactly the reason people call us to replace wifi cameras. Wired cameras get power and data over one cable, do not compete with everything else in the house for bandwidth, and do not drop offline when the router reboots.
Can you add cameras to the alarm system I already have?
In most cases yes. Cameras can be installed as a standalone system or tied into an existing monitored alarm so that an alarm event brings up the relevant camera. We will confirm what your current panel supports before quoting anything.
Will you help me get footage to law enforcement?
Yes. Exporting a usable clip is the part most camera owners discover they cannot do at the worst possible moment, so we show you how before we leave, and if you would rather we did it, you call a local number and we pull it.
Do cameras actually deter break-ins?
Visible cameras at an approach do discourage the opportunistic attempt, but that is not the main reason to install them. The main reason is that when something does happen, footage good enough to identify a person or a vehicle is what gives law enforcement and your insurer something to act on.
